Worked example (made-up numbers)
One half-truck job, every cost on its own line
This is the example file you get, so you see a finished quote before you type your own numbers. Half a 15-yard truck of mixed household items (7.5 cubic yards, about 0.94 tons), a mattress and a flat-screen TV, some stairs, you plus one helper, 21 miles from the yard to the job, the dump and back, customer pays by card.
| Per job | Amount |
|---|---|
| Dump fee (0.94 tons) | $79.69 |
| Special items (mattress, TV) | $40.00 |
| Fuel | $6.87 |
| Truck wear and tear | $5.25 |
| Labor (5.25 labor hours) | $112.88 |
| Overhead | $12.00 |
| Total cost before card fee | $256.69 |
| Price floor at the target margin | $413.82 |
| Suggested price | $415.00 |
| Card fee | $12.34 |
| Profit | $145.98 |
$49.31 per labor hourThat's what the example job pays after the dump fee, item fees, fuel, truck wear, overhead and the card fee. Compare it with what you pay yourself and your helper. If a price you type falls below the floor, the sheet flags it in red.
How the price is worked out
- Load weight = cubic yards × your pounds per cubic yard for the material, plus any known extra weight
- Cost = dump + special items + fuel + truck wear + labor + overhead
- Price floor = (cost + card fixed fee) ÷ (1 − card fee % − target margin)
- Suggested price = the floor rounded up to your step, never below your minimum charge
The job that lost money
A phone quote that felt fair, and a job that cost more than it paid
From the example Job Log (made-up jobs). Job 3 was a three-quarter truck quoted at $350 over the phone. It turned into a far haul with a crew of three, and the log shows what it really cost.
| Job 3 (example) | Amount |
|---|---|
| Price charged | $350.00 |
| Dump cost | $156.40 |
| Fuel and wear | $16.74 |
| Labor (3 people, 3.7 hours) | $225.70 |
| Overhead and card fee | $22.45 |
| Total cost | $421.29 |
| Profit | −$71.29 |
Made-up example. Across the 24 example jobs, the Dashboard counts 4 under the target margin and 1 that lost money, so you see which kind of job to price differently next time.

How the math is checked
Every formula tested against a separate model
Before release, a test script rebuilt every result outside the spreadsheet: 92 test cases with 12,210 comparisons against an independent model, 0 failures, and a full recalculation in a second spreadsheet program that matched. It also broke formulas on purpose to make sure the checks catch it.
How it's made
Formulas, layout and copy were created by Orvian Market with AI-assisted drafting, and every formula is tested as described here. Rates, dump fees and weights in the files are examples, not typical or average figures. This is a pricing and planning tool, not accounting, tax, legal or professional advice.

Questions
Does it work in Google Sheets?
Yes. It's a regular .xlsx file with standard formulas and no macros. Open it in Excel 2016 or newer, or in Google Sheets use File → Import → Upload.
Can I quote by cubic yards instead of truck fractions?
Yes. Pick a load size, or type exact cubic yards to replace it. Loads bigger than your truck count as extra dump trips.
My dump charges per load, not per ton. Does that work?
Yes. Choose per ton (with a minimum per visit) or a flat fee per load on Settings.
Can I rename the load sizes and materials?
Yes. Both are editable tables on Settings, including the pounds per cubic yard for each material.
Does it know what my local dump charges?
No. Dump fees and weights differ by place, so you type your own rates. Every number in the example file is made up.
How do I get the files, and what if it's not right for me?
Checkout is on Gumroad and the download link arrives right away by email. If a file won't open or isn't what you expected, reply to your Gumroad receipt within 14 days and we'll fix it or refund you.
